Career opportunities in the world of work.

Working with Passions and Pathways, run by the Goldfields LLEN is an absolute joy for us, and we’re all in when it comes to helping young people explore the exciting career opportunities in the world of work, specifically the construction industry. Jeff’s involvement on the committees for the Department of Education and Training’s Bendigo Education Plan and Tash’s role as an ambassador for YIA (Youth Industry Association) both reflect their shared passion for educating our youth.

What Passions and Pathways do is so important, and we recently had the opportunity to attend several events such as the YIA presentation at Heathcote Primary School where Tash talked to the students all about the fascinating world of construction and the endless career possibilities that come with it.

asking questions

The students were really engaged and asked a lot of interesting questions, and we couldn’t be happier about that.

But the adventure didn’t end there! As part of the Passions and Pathways Roadshow, a group of students had the opportunity to visit one of our active construction sites. We took them behind the scenes and explained all the different stages of building a house. They even got their hands on some building plans and a checklist, challenging them to figure out the puzzle of pipes, electrical wiring, and plaster. It was like a construction-themed scavenger hunt!

While they were on site, they got to hang out with our apprentice carpenters, Katie and Maddy, and our skilled painters, watching them do their magic and, of course, asking loads of questions. They even got to try their hand at painting plasterboards and building brick walls. How’s that for hands-on learning?

Our next adventure was a real winner too! We teamed up with students to build community book libraries. Two of our apprentice carpenters, Elias and Maddy, were right there to guide them through the process, from setting up the kits to putting everything together like a puzzle. It was all about glue, hammers, nails, drills, and painting – a day full of fun and learning!

These fantastic street libraries are now making their way to school entrances and local parks for everyone to enjoy.

Book Boxes

Then, we had the pleasure of joining the Heathcote Primary School presentation at the Bendigo Library, where the students shared their awesome experiences with Passions and Pathways and Lansell Homes. They couldn’t stop talking about the fun they had, how rewarding the journey was, and how much they loved discovering the different pathways to a career in construction.

They absolutely adored Tash and her talks, and they were seriously impressed by her in-depth knowledge of the building industry. It’s clear they’re big fans!

We can’t wait to team up with Passions and Pathways again next year. Our plan? To bring even more hands-on activities that the students will absolutely love. Get ready for more fun and learning in the future!
