Supporting causes outside of the office.
CEO Jeff Smith proudly supports a number of causes outside of the office.
He is Vice-Chair of the HIA Member Education and Membership Committee (Vic) as well as a member of both the HIA Regional Executive Committee (Vic) and the National HIA Membership Committee.
“Working with the Executive and Membership Committees gives me a chance to give back to the industry – supporting the development of policy and direction on legal and industrial relation issues, ensuring their relevance at a regional level,” says Jeff.
“I have a passion for education. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to participate in the Education and Membership Committee. It’s great being in a position to encourage learning and ways to constantly improve how members are supported so they can be as competitive and informed as possible.”
Speaking of education, Jeff often volunteers to speak at local schools (primary and senior) on opportunities for work in the building industry.
“I feel we have lost a generation of trades, and I’m always on the lookout for the chance to get into schools. I’m eager to encourage young people to look at the wide variety of options the trade has available that could deliver a rewarding career.”
Jeff is also on the ACS (Australian Computer Society) Branch Executive Committee and is the first Regional Ambassador for the ACS appointed in Australia. He advocates for technology infrastructure improvements in regional areas and works with schools and businesses on ICT education and career development.
In addition to these roles, he also serves as Assistant Treasurer on the Board of Trustees for the Malmsbury Cemetery Trust, supporting this local community to preserve and maintain an essential piece of their heritage.
