Managing the pressures on home building in 2022

Two construction workers building a house

Over the last 12 months, the cost to build a new home has increased significantly and the times to start and finish building a home have also increased.

HIA’s recent survey of members across Australia showed that the price and availability of building materials and trades is the number one concern for members across all states and territories.

The shortage of materials and labour has resulted in the construction time for completion of a single-detached home increasing from 8.3 months in 2019 to more than 12 months.

To help understand the current pressures, a new HIA consumer information sheet is available.
