While we are heating our homes to stay warm and cosy throughout July and into August, our American friends celebrate Air-Conditioning Appreciation Days. It’s an excellent time to remember that caring for our cooling systems now can prepare them to run smoothly when the warmer weather hits.
“As with all things, a little preventative maintenance can often save money and inconvenience down the track", says Matt Harrington of Bendigo Refrigeration & Airconditioning Services. "It's recommended that your heating and cooling units be serviced and maintained by qualified licensed technicians at least every two years to prolong the life of the unit, help keep it running safely and at optimum efficiency."

Don’t pump up the heat too high.
To perform at its most efficient, your unit should ideally be set no higher than 21-22°C. Setting your thermostat back even by a few degrees can reduce energy consumption by 5 to 10%.
Explore others ways to keep things warm.
Find any spots around your home that need draft-proofing. Little devices like draft excluders and window seals are cheap to buy, and can make a big difference.
